Katherine L. Hughes, LCSW

I grew up in Upstate New York and after years of moving around the country I landed in Northern Virginia several years ago. I have worked with people, in some capacity, my entire life. Professionally, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families within both private and non-profit settings.

Most recently, I have focused my practice on working with adolescents and adults who have experienced trauma. I love being able to blend my passion for helping people with my deep curiosity about the body and brain. As a nature lover, I am comforted by the knowledge that we are uniquely equipped to survive, and while that doesn’t always provide for psychological relief, we are finding ways to tap into our body’s natural healing abilities to process these traumatic events in a more adaptive way. It is a privilege to work with people through some of the toughest events of their lives and I am grateful for every opportunity to help others reclaim their lives.

In my free time I like spending time outside; I enjoy taking my dogs out hiking, summiting mountains, or just relaxing by the water. I love getting the opportunity to travel, explore different landscapes, and experience other cultures. At home I can be found baking, spending time with my family, and listening to various podcasts, audiobooks, and albums.
